02Story

The Story of Kmetija Sorta

Kmetija Sorta is located in the upper Branica Valley, in the village of Kodreti, on the border between the Karst and the Vipava Valley. The farm covers 25 hectares of land, of which 4 hectares are vineyards, the rest are pastures and meadows.

In addition to viticulture and winemaking, we also engage in organic cattle and goat farming. The farm has been cared for by several generations of the Sorta family.

A 300-year-old wine cellar testifies to the tradition and age of the farm. Father and son take care of the livestock and vineyards, harmonizing proven traditional views and working methods with modern ones, supported by new insights.

Takoj stisnjeno celo grozdje in 3-mesečno zorenje na finih drožeh v posodi iz nerjavečega jekla.

Style — macerated

Grozdna drozga je bila 5 dni macerirana, po končani fermentaciji je sledilo še pol leta zorenja na finih drožeh v posodah iz nerjavečega jekla, nato pa še vsaj pol leta zorenja v steklenici. Vino je nefiltrirano. Barva vina je intenzivno zlata. Vino je polno, ima lepo kislino, je pitno in živahno.

04Approach and terroir

Marl, wind and altitude

The vineyards sit at 280 metres above sea level, on the edge where the karst plateau drops into the Branica Valley.

Marl soils with karst terra rossa hold just enough water for the vines to get through the summer without irrigation. The grapes are grown organically, and in the cellar we take no shortcuts: whole bunches or a long maceration, ageing on fine lees, and enough time in the bottle.
